About Amy Phillips

Amy Reading

Hello and welcome to my site! I am an educator and children’s book author whose love for books stems from my love for children, both my own and the ones I have taught.

My other love is cats! I will be the first to say that I was a little judgmental about Sphynx cats who do not have hair, like all other breeds. It wasn’t until I found out that two of my friends owned hairless cats that I realized they were just as loveable! Quirky, but loveable!

Early on in my career as an elementary school teacher, I drew inspiration from a variety of authors and from the look of awe, inspiration and happiness on my student’s faces as I read aloud a picture book to my kindergarten, first or second grade students.

I have always appreciated the cleverness and witty approach many authors take when writing to young readers and the illustrations are always the icing on the cake that bring the words to life.

Knowing the importance of teaching lessons through the use of literature inspired me even more as I raised my boys to embrace a love of reading as well.

A little something you may not know about me…I have been a high school administrator for the last 10 years. Knowing this, it’s probably not surprising to hear that my love of education extends to the adolescent world where I see the importance of instilling character and values early on WAY before the high school years.

I cannot think of a better way to communicate these important topics than through reading and storytelling. My hope is to always be able to write both meaningful and impactful stories that center around topics we are very familiar with today – social and emotional awareness, kindness, inclusion, bias and earth friendliness.

Thank you for sharing a little bit of your time with me.

Books

Today is the day! Harry discovers there is a big and beautiful world outside that he wants to explore. But not everyone is as friendly as he thought they would be. This story about inclusion reminds us that it's important not to judge based on appearance and even more important to treat others with kindness.

Now that Harry is an outdoor cat, he is discovering a whole new world and making friends. As he goes about his days, he looks around and sees that people are not as kind to their communities as he thought they would be. Harry and his friends quickly figure out how to lend a helping hand!

Harry and Rusty

Harry and his best friend, Rusty, love to spend time together.  But when Rusty is whisked away by his owner, Harry doesn’t understand why.  His natural curiosity leads him on an adventure and heartwarming journey.

Austin's Coffee Crafters

I was delighted to be invited to one of Ripon's favorite coffee shops to read to some local sweetie pie children! It made my heart so full.

Central Valley TV

I had the opportunity to be a guest on Central Valley TV's Authors and Artists Show. Thank you, Mike Briggs. I had a great time sharing about my children's books!
